Translate

Yandex Browser for mobile automatically detects the language of the loaded page and can translate it into or another language of your choice.

In this mode, you can translate text, or a website page directly on the current tab.

Offer to translate pages

If you want Yandex Browser to offer to translate pages when you open them:

  1. Tap Меню → → Yandex Translate.

  2. Enable the Offer to translate pages option.

The translator isn't working

The translator is enabled in the browser by default. Make sure that you have not turned off the translator manually:

  1. Tap Меню → → Yandex Translate.

  2. Make sure the Offer to translate pages option is enabled.

Yandex Browser translates pages from over 90 languages.

To translate a page from a foreign language to Russian, tap → Translate page.

The icon will appear to the right of the SmartBox, and above it, you'll see a translation panel showing the progress.

Change the translation language

To translate a page into the language of your choice, select the language you need from the list in the translation panel.

Translate a page automatically

If you want Yandex Browser to translate the page you need automatically, on the left side of the translation panel, tap Настройки"/> → Automatically translate from .

To prohibit automatic page translation, on the left side of the translation panel, tap Настройки"/> → Never translate this site.

You can return to the page in the original language in two ways:

  • From the SmartBox: tap the icon to the right of the SmartBox.

  • From the page menu: tap → Show original.

Disable translation
  1. Tap Меню → → Yandex Translate.

  2. Disable the Offer to translate pages option.

Words and phrases

The browser translates individual words and sentences into Russian. To see the translation of a word or phrase:

  1. Select them in the text.

  2. On the toolbar that appears, tap Translate.

Translate images

  1. To open it, use one of the following methods:

    • Tap Меню → .

    • Open a new tab:

      1. If you're on a page, in the bottom panel, tap or Меню → New tab . A new tab will open.
      2. Tap Translation.
  2. Tap to upload an image from your device.

  3. Above the box, select a target language → click .

The window will display the image with the translation over the original text. Select an action:

  • To copy the text from the image, tap .

  • To rate the translation, click or .

Translate subtitles

Restriction

Yandex provides subtitles for videos on a number of hosting sites, including Coursera, VK, YouTube, Twitch, Vimeo, and 9GAG.

Yandex Browser supports subtitles for all videos that it can translate. Use it to:

  • Automatically create and translate subtitles for videos in 8 languages.
  • Translate existing subtitles from over 90 languages.

To enable and configure subtitles:

  1. In the video, tap .

  2. To configure subtitles, tap  and select:

    • Subtitle language: Select the original language or translation. If the video already has subtitles, you can select the service's subtitles instead of Yandex ones.
    • Highlight words: The words that are currently being spoken are highlighted. The option is only available for Yandex subtitles in the original language.

Note

To look up the translation of a word in the subtitles, simply click it. The video will pause, and the translation of the word and phrase will appear in a pop-up window. To continue watching, click anywhere inside the video window.

Can’t turn on subtitles with video translation
  1. Tap Меню → → Translate → Translate and Subtitles buttons on videos and Subtitles button on untranslated videos.

  2. In the video, enable and configure subtitles.

If you're watching a video in fullscreen mode or on top of other apps (picture-in-picture), subtitles aren't available. To enable and configure subtitles, return to normal mode. Then you can reopen the video in fullscreen or on top of apps.

How to enable untranslated subtitles
  1. Next to the translation icon, tap .

  2. Enable Subtitles.

  3. In the Subtitle language field, select the original language. If the platform has its own subtitles, you can also select them.
